Hamas disinformation:
Israel’s international airport closed,
planes redirected to secret base

by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik

On the fifth day of Israel’s Operation Pillar of Defense that targets terrorist infrastructure in Gaza and which has successfully destroyed many Hamas rocket launching  points, Hamas issued false information about its own successes fighting Israel.
[Al-Aqsa TV (Hamas), Nov. 18, 2012]
Today, a news ticker on Hamas’ Al-Aqsa TV incorrectly claimed:

“Media of the enemy: International airport Ben Gurion closed, planes being redirected to a secret base in the north
[of Israel].”

Similarly, the Hamas website Al-Risala falsely claimed yesterday that Hamas had succeeded in shooting down an Israeli F-16 plane:

“Hamas’ military wing Izz A-Din Al-Qassam Brigades confirmed that an ‘Israeli’ F-16 fighter plane was shot down… A reconnaissance aircraft was shot down as well.”

[Al-Aqsa TV (Hamas), Nov. 15, 2012]

Likewise, on Thursday, when Israel launched the operation, Hamas immediately set out to create an illusion of its own success by reporting on TV and on a Hamas website that one of its missiles had hit Tel Aviv, falsely claiming that it had cut off electricity in the city:

“Al-Qassam Brigades shelled Tel Aviv for the first time with a locally made rocket. The electricity network in the southern part of the city was hit.”

The following are the articles from the

Al-Risala website:

“Hamas’ military wing Izz A-Din Al-Qassam Brigades confirmed that an ‘Israeli’ F-16 fighter plane was shot down in the Al-Wusta Governorate. A reconnaissance aircraft was shot down as well. Abu Ubeida [the Izz A-Din Al-Qassam Brigades' spokesperson] said that the resistance and the Al-Qassam Brigades are doing well, and the occupation’s claim that the power of the Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip has been destroyed is merely a lie. He described the Iron Dome (Israeli system that can intercept and destroy missiles in the air), which was built by the occupation and which costs it millions in order to intercept Palestinian rockets, as the ‘Paper Dome.’”

[Al-Risala website (Hamas), Nov. 17, 2012]

“Izz A-Din Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, officially announced that occupied Tal Al-Rabia (“Tal Al-Rabia” is the Palestinians’ Arabic translation of Tel Aviv, to wrongly imply the existence of an Arab village of that name prior to Tel Aviv – Ed. ) was shelled with an improved Fajr-5 rocket on Thursday morning. Yesterday, Al-Qassam [Brigades] stated that Tal Al-Rabia was shelled with a locally made rocket. They emphasized in an announcement that what comes next will be worse. Hebrew (i.e., Israeli) media sources said that the rocket cut off electricity in ‘Tel Aviv,’ which is 70 kilometers from Gaza.”

Mahmoud Abbas: Jerusalem only has Islamic and Christian history

Mahmoud Abbas:
Jerusalem only has Islamic and Christian history,
Israel’s “Judaization” is stealing Jerusalem’s
“cultural, human, and Islamic-Christian
religious history”
Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor:
Israel is creating “artificial heritage
with a Jewish spirit at the expense
of its [Jerusalem's] true and authentic [identity]
as an Arab, Islamic and Christian city”
by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority continue to deny Israel’s 3,000 years of history in Jerusalem, claiming it is solely an Arab, Muslim and Christian city. Earlier this month, Abbas referred to Israel’s presence and activities in Jerusalem as “Judaization” and stated that Israel is stealing what he called the “cultural, human, and Islamic-Christian religious history.”
Last month, Abbas’ advisor for Jerusalem said that Israel is trying:
“to create an artificial heritage with a Jewish spirit at the expense of its true and authentic [identity] as an Arab, Islamic and Christian city.”
This is not the first time that Abbas has denied Jewish history in Jerusalem and claimed the city for Islam alone. Palestinian Media Watch has reported that Mahmoud Abbas said that taking Jerusalem from Israel is a religious Islamic obligation of the highest level, a “fard ayn” – a personal Islamic commandment incumbent on every Muslim:
“I say to the leaders of our Arab nation and to its peoples: Jerusalem and its environs are a trust that Allah entrusted to us. Saving it [Jerusalem] from the settlement monster and the danger of Judaization and [land] confiscation is a personal [Islamic] commandment [Arabic: fard ayn] incumbent on all of us. Therefore, I call all of you to serious and urgent action to save [Jerusalem] and to make available all possibilities in order to strengthen our resolve and to maintain its historical, cultural and religious character.”
[Al-Jazeera TV, March 27, 2010]
In a different speech, Abbas said in 2010:
“The oppressor will not last in Jerusalem; the oppression will not endure. Victory will come, Allah willing. This land is Allah’s best land, for which He chooses the finest of His believers, as it is written in the words of the Prophet [Muhammad].”
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 11, 2010]
Abbas’ Minister of Religion Mahmoud Al-Habbash claimed that Jerusalem has been:

“throughout history, the capital of the Palestinian state and the capital of the Palestinian people.”

[PA TV (Fatah), Aug. 20, 2010]
Neither claim is correct. There has never been a Palestinian state and Jerusalem was never the capital of an Arab or Muslim state. Nonetheless, the minister warned there would be religious war over Jerusalem:
“The term ‘war’ cannot be erased from the lexicon of this region as long as Jerusalem is occupied.”
[PA TV (Fatah), Aug. 20, 2010]
The Palestinian Authority Mufti Muhammad Hussein likewise recently denied Jewish history in Jerusalem:
“They [Jews] want to say or suggest that this place (i.e., the Temple Mount) was once, according to their claim, a Temple. However, in truth, there never was a Temple in any period, nor was there, at any time, any place of worship for the Jews or others at the Al-Aqsa Mosque site (i.e., which was built on the Temple Mount, 705 CE).”
[PA TV (Fatah), Jan. 5, 2012]
The following are the recent statements by Mahmoud Abbas and his advisor on Jerusalem, followed by Abbas’ earlier comments and the remarks of the Minister of Religion:
“President Mahmoud Abbas held a series of meetings in Tunis… the President met with the Arab ambassadors to Tunisia… He explained to the guests the policies that are being adopted by the occupation authorities (i.e., Israel) – Judaization, destruction of homes, causing the emigration of Palestinian inhabitants, and imposition of high taxes; the continued excavations under the Al-Aqsa Mosque; [and he explained] the need for Arab cohesion in order to protect what remains of the holy city, and the [Israeli] attempts to steal its cultural, human, and Islamic-Christian religious history.”
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, May 1, 2012]
“Advisor on Jerusalem affairs to the Palestinian President’s Office, Ahmed Al-Ruweidi… said: ‘Israel is managing to seize the land in the city; at the same time, the chances of maintaining its Arab and Islamic identity are small, since the occupation authorities are carrying out the 2020 plan, which is meant to establish the Jewishness of Jerusalem and to create a new and fabricated facade with an artificial heritage… about Jewish existence in Jerusalem… It is not befitting a city with the importance of Jerusalem, with what it represents, that it should continue to be subject to occupation… and that there should be repeated, ongoing attempts to change its geographical, demographic and cultural characteristics, and to create an artificial heritage with a Jewish spirit at the expense of its true and authentic [identity] as an Arab, Islamic and Christian city.’”
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, April 25, 2012]
Mahmoud Abbas, addressing the leaders of Arab countries at the Arab League summit in Libya, on March 27, 2010:
“I say to the leaders of our Arab nation and to its peoples: Jerusalem and its environs are a trust that Allah entrusted to us. Saving it [Jerusalem] from the settlement monster and the danger of Judaization and [land-] confiscation, is a personal [Islamic] commandment [Arabic: fard ayn] incumbent on all of us. Therefore, I call all of you to serious and urgent action to save [Jerusalem] and to make available all possibilities in order to strengthen our resolve and to maintain its historical, cultural and religious character.”

Mahmoud Al-Habbash, PA Minister of Religious Affairs with Mahmoud Abbas in the audience:
“Jerusalem is not just a city. Al-Aqsa is not just a mosque. Jerusalem is the key to peace, and Jerusalem can ignite a thousand and one wars. Unless the issue of Jerusalem is solved, so that it returns to its owners; unless Jerusalem will be Palestinian, as it was throughout history, the capital of the Palestinian state and the capital of the Palestinian people, the place which is the object of heartfelt longing and which all Muslims aspire to reach; unless Jerusalem is like that way, there is no peace. There is no peace without Jerusalem. There is no stability without Jerusalem. If Jerusalem is dishonored, if Jerusalem is disgraced, if [Jerusalem] is lost, it may leave the door open to all possibilities of struggle, all possibilities of war. The term ‘war’ cannot be erased from the lexicon of this region as long as Jerusalem is occupied, as long as Jerusalem is disgraced, as long as the residents of Jerusalem are being targeted. It’s not possible; Jerusalem has to return to its owners. And we are its owners.”

Hitler admired in PLO youth magazine because he murdered Jews

Via PALWatch:

Hitler tells a Palestinian girl in her dream:
“I killed them [the Jews] so you would all know that they are a nation
which spreads destruction all over the world.”
by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik

The following is an excerpt from Deception: Betraying the Peace Process, chapter 14, section 1:

The Palestinian Authority funds a monthly educational magazine for children called Zayzafuna. The magazine is made up of material written by the magazine’s staff and also includes essays and poems written by children. Accordingly, Zayzafuna both represents the values of the educators and serves as a window into the minds of the participating Palestinian children. The magazine is published with the sponsorship of the PLO’s Palestinian National Committee for Education, Culture and Sciences.

Most of the content in Zayzafuna is positive and educational. It promotes family values, encourages children to read and to participate in building a modern, democratic society. However, these positive messages are directed at Palestinian society, Muslims, Christians and Druze. When it comes to portraying Israel and Jews, Zayzafuna changes its tone and includes items glorifying Jihad against Israel and praising Martyrdom death for Allah, and the Martyrs themselves.

The most extreme expression of demonization of Jews is the inclusion of an essay submitted by a teenage girl in which Hitler is presented as a positive figure to be admired because he killed Jews in order to benefit the world.

The girl in her dream asks Hitler: “You’re the one who killed the Jews?” Hitler responds: “Yes. I killed them so you would all know that they are a nation which spreads destruction all over the world.” Like the other hate messages, this appears in a story with positive messages by other admired figures, including a Muslim Nobel Prize recipient and a math scholar. See the full text below.

In addition, the magazine portrays a world where “Palestine” has replaced Israel by referring to Israeli cities such as Haifa and Jaffa as places in “Palestine” or as “occupied” cites. It denies Israel’s right to exist by saying that Israel is on “stolen” or “occupied” land, and demonizes Israel and Jews. Approximately one fourth of the children’s submissions are on nationalistic topics, and among them are expressions of hatred and delegitimization against Jews and Israel that mirror the messages transmitted by the PA leadership through official media, PA education and other structures under their control.

It is specifically because this is not a hate magazine, but in general a positive publication promoting good values, that the hatred expressed towards Israel and Jews is so damaging. All the positive messages about coexistence and peace, which abound throughout the magazine, apply to everyone but Israelis and Jews. The message of Zayzafuna concerning Israelis and Jews is that they are in a unique category separated from other peoples and religious groups: For others – peace, cooperation and coexistence; for Israelis and Jews – hatred, confrontation and Jihad.

Hitler admired because he murdered Jews

The Zayzafuna magazine chose to publish an essay written by a girl in 10th grade in which Hitler is admired because he killed the Jews – an act that is presented as a positive accomplishment for the benefit of humanity. The girl describes a dream in which she meets four historical figures, all of whom are presented as admired role models, and each one’s special accomplishment is the topic of a short conversation with the girl. Three of them are the ninth-century Muslim mathematician Al-Khwarizmi; Nobel Prize-winning Egyptian author Naguib Mahfouz; and Saladin, the Muslim leader who defeated the Christian Crusaders and conquered Jerusalem in the 12th century. The fourth and only non-Muslim role model in the dream is Adolf Hitler.

All four are presented as positive figures and each one offers advice to the young girl, which she accepts. Hitler is admired because he killed the Jews “so you would all know that they are a nation which spreads destruction all over the world.” Hitler advises the girl to “be resilient and patient” in facing the suffering the Jews are causing. The girl thanks Hitler for his advice.

Significantly, Zayzafuna‘s editors chose to include this submission in the magazine, without dissociating themselves from the admiration of Hitler. They found it an acceptable message to have Hitler appear with other role models for Palestinian children.

The following is the essay in Zayzafuna presenting Hitler with other positive role models.

“One hot day, I was very tired after a hard day… and suddenly I saw four white doors in front of me. I opened them in no particular order.
I opened the f irst door and saw a beautiful place full of f lowers. I was surprised to see a man there. I asked him, ‘Who are you?’
He said, ‘I am Al-Khwarizmi.’ [Ninth century Persian mathematician who lived in Baghdad, known for his contribution to the development of algebra.]
I said: ‘You’re the one who invented mathematics and arithmetic?’ He said: ‘Yes. What’s your situation like today?’
I said: ‘The Arabs and Muslims are in a deep sleep; they can’t do anything. They have moved away from all the sciences.’
He [Al-Khwarizmi] said: ‘Yes, I know that. The day will come when the Arabs will return to their glory. And you – you have a great duty, which is to take an interest in the Islamic sciences and to protect them from being forgotten.’
I said, ‘I promise,’ and left the door.
I turned to the next door; there Hitler awaited me. I said, ‘You’re the one who killed the Jews?’
He [Hitler] said: ‘Yes. I killed them so you would all know that they are a nation which spreads destruction all over the world. And what I ask of you is to be resilient and patient, concerning the suffering that Palestine is experiencing at their hands.’
I said [to Hitler]: ‘Thanks for the advice.’
Then I turned to the third door, and met Naguib Mahfouz [Nobel Prize- winning Egyptian author], who was the one who knew best the value of time and how to use it.
He said: ‘People’s pastime, these days, has become killing time and wasting it, as though they are punishing themselves. So strive to use your time in the best way.’
At the fourth door I meet Saladin Al-Ayoubi [Muslim leader who defeated the Christian crusaders and conquered Jerusalem in the twelfth century]. He said: ‘I am Saladin.’
I said: ‘You were the one who liberated Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa [Mosque].’ He answered: ‘Yes.’
I said: ‘Return, oh Saladin, for Jerusalem and Palestine cry out and no one answers.’
He [Saladin] said: ‘I know, but every time has its men, and the right man to liberate Jerusalem is still to come.’
And before I could finish my dream, the alarm clock rang and I woke up. It was seven in the morning, and I needed to go to school early, because I had promised Naguib Mahfouz that I would use time well.”
[Zayzafuna, February 2011]

Although repugnant, a Palestinian teenager’s admiration for Hitler because he killed Jews, alongside other Muslim role models, is not unexpected. As PMW documents, Palestinian children are brought up with the teaching that killing Israelis and Jews is heroic. The PA has named streets, schools, sporting events and more after Palestinian terrorists who have killed hundreds of Israeli civilians. In Palestinian cultural, educational and social events, every Palestinian child is exposed to repeated glorification of terrorists who have killed Jews. Palestinian children have participated in summer camps named after Dalal Mughrabi who led a bus hijacking in which 37 civilians were killed, and played in football tournaments named after Abd Al-Basset Odeh, a suicide bomber who killed 31 Israelis at a Passover dinner. It is not surprising that a Palestinian child who has been educated to see those who have murdered Jews as heroes and role models will conclude that Hitler, the one who murdered the most Jews in history, is likewise worthy of admiration.

About the publishers and advisory staff of Zayzafuna:
The magazine is published by the Zayzafuna Association for Development of Children’s Culture, and sponsored by the PLO’s Palestinian National Committee for Education, Culture and Sciences.

The magazine’s advisory board is comprised of Palestinian Authority officials and educators, including PA Deputy Minister of Education Jihad Zakarneh, and former PA Minister for Women’s Affairs Zuheira Kamal. [Zayzafuna, February 2011]

The Zayzafuna magazine is part of a larger education program funded by the Palestinian Authority which contributed 90,000 Shekel ($24,370) in 2010 and 10,000 Shekel ($2,700) a month in 2011.

Since August 2011, the magazine is also sponsored by UNESCO and the MDG Achievement Fund (MDG-F), a UN humanitarian foundation funded by the Spanish government. [Zayzafuna, August 2011.] In the October 2011 issue a note appears: “Opinions expressed in this magazine don’t necessarily express UNESCO’s views.”

Deputy Chairman of the Zayzafuna organization Abd Al-Karim Ziyada has explained the following about the funding of Zayzafuna:

“The magazine has advertisements, which cover some of the costs. For the year 2010-2011 we have subscriptions by students and schools, and that also helps [funding the magazine]. We are fortunate in that the Palestinian Authority and the Prime Minister [Salam Fayyad] have helped us this year with aid in the amount of 90,000 Shekel ($24,370) to cover the magazine and organization costs, and that has given us a push forward. Allah be praised, there is a new agreement for a monthly [PA] payment of 10,000 Shekel ($2,700) to cover the magazine [costs].”
[PA TV (Fatah), May 9 and 13, 2011]

This excerpt above is from a chapter in the book Deception: Betraying the Peace Process, recently published by PMW. The book includes a longer analysis of the other material as well found in issues of Zayzafuna from May 2010 through August 2011, focusing on messages relating to Israelis and Jews. A short summary of the positive messages in Zayzafuna and that are unconnected to Israel, is also included.

PA TV continues to glorify
most lethal attack in Israel’s history and terrorist Dalal Mughrabi

http://palwatch.org/main.aspx?fi=157&doc_id=5562

by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik

Last week, Palestinian Authority TV once again chose to glorify the most lethal terror attack in Israel’s history.

In 1978, a group of terrorists led by Dalal Mughrabi sailed from Lebanon to Israel to carry out a terror attack. They hijacked a bus and killed 37 Israeli civilians.

PA TV broadcast a video honoring the terrorists, describing them as having “no fear of death or the darkness of prison.” PA TV also broadcast this video as part of itscelebration of the anniversary of the Fatah movement in January.

At the Fatah anniversary, PA TV also broadcast another video honoring the terrorists. It described them as “heroes… who shook the land, brought down mountains,” and mentioned how “the coast was stormy with the glory of Dalal Mughrabi.”

During the last three months, PA TV has broadcast another video twice weekly honoring Dalal Mughrabi, associating her with “Martyrdom” and “victory over enmity.”

The video is part of a TV campaign to “support women’s issues” in the Arab world, which was broadcast last year on more than 50 Arab TV stations including Palestinian Authority TV. It presents several “model women.” Two of the women promoted as role models for Arab women today are Dalal Mughrabi, famous for her terrorist attack that killed dozens, and Al-Khansa, famous for celebrating the Martyrdom deaths of her children.

For years, it has been Palestinian Authority policy to glorify terrorists and turn them into role models. PA TV is one of the means by which the PA transmits this message.

PMW has documented how the PA has turned terrorist Dalal Mughrabi into a hero and role model of society

The following are excerpts from the PA TV music videos glorifying terrorist Dalal Mughrabi and the attack she led:

“We [PLO squad] set out on patrol from Lebanon; with no fear of death or the darkness of prison. On the coast [Dalal] Mughrabi’s blood was shed, the color of [red] coral on [white] lemon flowers.” [PA TV (Fatah), Jan. 2 and Aug. 24, 2011]

Hamas puppet: I declare war on the Zionists

After having three puppet hosts, the Mickey Mouse look-alike, the bee and the rabbit, all die on TV, Hamas children’s television has introduced a fourth puppet host. The new one, a bear named Nassur, appeared Friday on Hamas TV promising to be a Jihad fighter, and declaring war on the Zionists.

Nassur: “I will join the ranks of the Izz A-Din Al-Qassam [Hamas'] Brigades. I will be a Jihad fighter with them and I will carry a rifle. Do you know why, Saraa?”
Saraa: “Why?”
Nassur: “To defend the children of Palestine, the children who were killed, the children who were wounded, the orphaned children. That’s why, from this moment, I declare war on the criminal Zionists. Not only me, me and you. You are ready, right, Saraa?”
Saraa: “We are all ready to sacrifice ourselves for our homeland!”

PA TV: Putting hatred to music

Via Palestinian Media Watch:

“Do you know what happened in 1948?” asks a pretty young girl on Palestinian Authority (PA) TV. “They [Israelis] took everything,” is her answer.

This message was broadcast again recently when a music video for children reappeared on PA TV after a year’s absence.

That “Israel took everything in 1948″ summarizes the essence of PA ideology, and the motivation for the continuing hatred and war against Israel.

To view the children’s video click here.

The denial of Israel’s right to exist has been repeated unabatedly in the PA – Abbas controlled – media, even since the Annapolis Conference one year ago. In contrast to Abbas’ pledge at Annapolis to promote co-existence, the message emanating from the PA to its public on educational documentaries, children’s programs and music videos is that all of Israel is “Palestine”.

It is unlikely that children who are brought up with this conceptual framework will ever recognize Israel as a legitimate state and neighbor.

Below is the full transcript of the video:

“My homeland
My land is very pretty
It has forests, stone houses and a sea
My homeland
My land is very pretty
It has hills, lemon and olive trees
I live in my village
My village in my homeland
My homeland is so pretty
My village is in it
There are Grandma’s stories
Mothers songs
The smell of a fig tree
And the aroma of jasmine
There are blue skies
And a light breeze
Do you know what happened in ’48?
They took everything
They burned the room
The houses they broke
The forests they destroyed
The village they erased
The names they changed
They changed the names
My homeland, her name is Palestine”  [PA TV, 1998 - 2008, repeatedly]

The Palestinian Authority published a caricature today in its official newspaper, in which Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni is portrayed with a dagger and blood-stained hands next to a white peace dove with its head in a noose. As a result of Prime Minister Olmert’s resignation and her election as leader of the Kadima party, Livni has been designated to to try to form the next Israeli government, and could be the next prime minister.Bottom text from right: “Gio-Kadima”

Mickey Mouse Again: Disney images used on PA hate TV

Mickey Mouse Again

Disney images adorn studio while mass murderer is glorified
By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook

Palestinian Authority (Fatah) TV is using the universally beloved characters of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Winnie the Pooh and Piglet in an attempt to create a Disney-like studio –  while teaching children to glorify a mass murderer whose victims included 12 children. In a new official PA TV studio built for a Ramadan children’s program, the smiling images of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Pooh and Piglet are the backdrop for a TV quiz that this week venerated a notorious terrorist.

The female terrorist, Dalal Mughrabi, participated in the murders of 12 children and 25 adults in a 1978 bus attack in Israel. In this quiz, Mughrabi is idolized as the “beloved bride, daughter of Jaffa, jasmine flower,” while figures of Mickey and Minnie Mouse are prominent in the background — as if it were a Disney program.

[PA TV (Fatah), Sept. 4-6, 2008]

In May 2007, PMW reported that the Hamas TV network was using a Mickey Mouse character to teach children to seek world Islamic domination. The widespread international outrage prompted Al Aqsa TV to get rid of the character (they showed him being beaten to death by an Israeli officer) and replace him with another animal host.

PoohNow Fatah TV, controlled by the office of PA head Mahmoud Abbas, is airing a children’s show that glorifies a mass murderer of children while trying to create a Mickey Mouse Club atmosphere.

The world did not put up with Hamas’s use of the iconic Mickey Mouse to brainwash children. Will the same international pressure be brought upon Mahmud Abbas and the official Palestinian Authority to stop using these beloved characters to sell terror?
