Skip the Lecture on Israel’s “Risks for Peace”

Posted by smoothstone

The creation of Israel did not involve the destruction of a Palestinian state, there having been no such state. Via Washington Post :

* In the intifada that began in 2000, Palestinian terrorism killed more than 1,000 Israelis. As a portion of U.S. population, that would be 42,000, approaching the toll of America’s eight years in Vietnam. During the onslaught, Israeli parents sending two children to school would put them on separate buses to decrease the chance that neither would return for dinner. Surely most Americans can imagine, even if their tone-deaf leaders cannot, how grating it is when those leaders lecture Israel on the need to take “risks for peace.”

* There was a time when taking risks for peace meant swapping “land for peace” – Israel sacrificing something tangible and irrecoverable, strategic depth, in exchange for something intangible and perishable, promises of diplomatic normality.

* Before the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel within the borders established by the 1949 armistice was in one place just nine miles wide, a fact that moved George W. Bush to say: In Texas we have driveways that long. Israel exchanged a lot of land to achieve a chilly peace with Egypt, yielding the Sinai, which is almost three times larger than Israel and was 89% of the land captured in the process of repelling the 1967 aggression.

* Israelis are famously fractious, but the intifada produced among them a consensus that the most any government of theirs could offer without forfeiting domestic support is less than any Palestinian interlocutor would demand. Furthermore, the intifada was part of a pattern. As in 1936 and 1947, talk about partition prompted Arab violence.

* The creation of Israel did not involve the destruction of a Palestinian state, there having been no such state. In the 62 years since Israel was founded on one-sixth of 1% of the land of what is carelessly and inaccurately called “the Arab world,” Israelis have never known an hour of real peace. Patronizing American lectures on the reality of risks and the desirableness of peace, which once were merely fatuous, are now obscene.

The Treatment of Israel Is Unique in Its Irrationality

Posted by smoothstone

Via National Review:

An Interview with Melanie Phillips

Phillips: “The treatment of Israel…is unique in its irrationality and moral and historical inversion. It takes a nation that is the historic victim of aggression and blames it for jeopardizing peace in the region and causing Islamic extremism worldwide – despite demonstrable evidence that this is simply untrue. It accuses Israel, wholly falsely, of “apartheid” and ethnic cleansing when Israeli Arabs have full civil rights and the Palestinian population has increased many times over – and when Jews are excluded from parts of the Arab world (including the putative state of Palestine).”

“It takes a nation that has been under exterminatory attack for six decades (nine, if you include the Palestine Mandate) and insists that it make compromises with its attackers, even as they continue to attack it. And if any Jew dares protest at the manifest injustice, lies, and bigotry in this unique delegitimization, they find themselves accused of ‘dual loyalty’ or being part of a covert global conspiracy to put the world at risk.”

“Jew-hatred…can surely never be eradicated. But the lies that currently fuel it – lies about Israel’s behavior, the history of the Middle East, and so on – should be publicly confronted and exploded. Similarly, the ways in which the blood libels about the Jews pouring out of the Arab and Muslim worlds are poisoning minds not just in that world but in the West should also be prominently discussed.”

“While the irrationality of Jew-hatred cannot be defeated by reason, there are many in Britain and the West who are not natural bigots but are actually people of high-minded conscience, who have merely been indoctrinated with falsehoods about Israel that are never publicly challenged. Some of those people, at least, can certainly be reached by addressing their ignorance.”

Obama, Don’t Forget Jerusalem

Posted by smoothstone

Via Washington Post:

* President Obama gives every appearance of not “getting” Israel; not appreciating its fears or its history. Israel is not half of the equation, as if both sides are right. It is a democracy with American values that has tried, over and over again, to make peace with a recalcitrant and unforgiving enemy.

* Most Israelis want a two-state solution. Most American Jews feel the same. But the Israeli political middle is scared. It is about life and death. It is about rockets coming in from Gaza yet again. It is about Hizbullah’s Scud missiles and the reasonable apprehension that Hamas would oust the moderate (and hapless) Palestinian Authority from the West Bank and turn the area into the functional equivalent of Gaza, an Islamic republic whose charter is a stew of crackpot anti-Semitism laced with death threats.

* What then? Would Obama stick by Israel? Many Israelis wonder. Obama “needs to address Israelis’ fears,” the Israeli philosopher Carlo Strenger wrote recently. So far, Obama has done just the opposite. His coolness toward Netanyahu has chilled the Israeli public and encouraged Palestinian defiance. He is on the cusp of an enormous diplomatic blunder.

Report: Hizbullah Arms Cache that Exploded Contained Chemical Weapons

Posted by smoothstone

It’s very easy to deconstruct the mythology of “peaceful” Islam. All one has to do is read the news. Via Jpost:

The hidden Hizbullah arms cache in southern Lebanon that exploded in July contained chemical weapons, and three Hizbullah terrorists died as a result of the toxins, in addition to eight other terrorists killed by the blast, the Kuwaiti newspaper Alseyassah Kuwait said on Thursday.

The paper reported that Iran recently sent Hizbullah new types of chemical weapons and protective equipment, as well as thousands of gas masks, via Syrian airports.

Dozens of Simultaneous Fires in Northern Israel are ‘Arab Arson’

Posted by smoothstone

Via INN:

Fire fighters in northern Israel fought dozens of blazes that broke out during the day Wednesday, most of them around noontime.

A source in the Hadera Fire Services told News1 that due to the fact that numerous fires broke out in a relatively limited area, the working assumption is that they were deliberately set. “We still do not know how the fires were set and we do not have details about the arsonist or arsonists,” he said.

Initial investigations by fire fighter squads in the numerous fire locations found a likelihood of arson. “This is man-made terror,” a fire commander said. “Fires don’t just break out on their own.”

Obama refuses to “meddle” in Iran but doesn’t hesitate to “meddle” in Israel

Posted by smoothstone

Looks like Obama’s Muslim identity politics are blinding him to behave like the hypocrite that we already knew he was.

In the first article below, Obama refuses to “meddle” or criticize Iran’s tyranny and Iran’s tyrannical regime’s hiring of Hamas thugs to kill more than 32 Iranian dissidents, yet, in the second article below, Obama willfully meddles into the politics of the sovereign nation of Israel and proceeds to layout where he believes Israel’s national borders should lie.

I have stated it before and I’ll state it again.  Obama was brought in for one singular purpose:  to destroy Israel.

Via JihadWatch:

If the Threat of the Great Satan doesn’t exist, it is necessary to invent it.

“Iran election: Barack Obama refuses to ‘meddle’ over protests,” by David Blair in the Telegraph, June 17 (thanks to James):

Barack Obama, the US president, is refusing to “meddle” in the disputed Iranian elections, despite mass protests over the result which returned President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to power….

President Obama said: “It’s important to understand that, although there is amazing ferment taking place in Iran, the difference between Ahmadinejad and Mousavi in terms of their actual policies may not be as great as has been advertised.

“Either way, we were going to be dealing with an Iranian regime that has historically been hostile to the United States, that has caused some problems in the neighbourhood and has been pursuing nuclear weapons,” he told CNBC television.

He said he hoped Iran’s leaders responded to outrage over an election that pro-reform activists say was stolen by Ahmadinejad, not with violence but by respecting the right to peaceful expression.

“Am I optimistic that that will happen? You know – I take a wait-and-see approach. Either way, it’s important for the United States to engage in the tough diplomacy around those permanent security concerns that we have – nuclear weapons, funding of terrorism,” he said….

“It is not productive, given the history of US-Iranian relations to be seen as meddling – the US president, meddling in Iranian elections,” Mr Obama said….

Now read about Obama’s hypocritical, audacious and meddlesome behavior towards Israel below.  Frank Gaffney explains it very clearly in the video.  Obama is signalling a submissive effect to the Muslim world.  He has embraced the Muslim brotherhood.  Iran, and the threat it poses to Israel and the rest of the free world, is terribly important but Obama won’t speak out against members of his tribe.  Via JPost:

Obama’s administration’s criticism of
Prime Minister
Binyamin Netanyahu’s policies has crossed the line into interfering in Israeli politics, top Likud ministers and MKs said Tuesday.

Kadima officials responded to the allegations by disagreeing that the US was meddling but expressing concern that such a perception by the Israeli public would harm their party and end up strengthening the prime minister. They accused Netanyahu’s associates of portraying Obama as an enemy of Israel in order to unite the public behind him.

The charges of American interference began April 16 when Yediot Aharonot quoted Obama’s chief of staff Rahm Emanuel telling an unnamed Jewish leader:

“In the next four years there is going to be a permanent-status arrangement between Israel and the Palestinians on the basis of two states for two peoples, and it doesn’t matter to us at all who is prime minister [of Israel].”

Four Muslims Arrested for Murder of Jew

Posted by smoothstone

Via YnetNews:

Four Palestinians from the Kalkilya area have been arrested for the murder of Dr. Daniel Yaakobi, 59, the Israel Security Agency announced Wednesday.

Yaakobi’s body was found burned in the trunk of a car near Kalkilya on July 27, 2006.

One of the suspects, Tayun Tayun, a Fatah operative, said Yaakobi had brought his car to his brother Ahmad’s garage. He said he attacked and beat him with a wrench and a stick until he died.

Sharon Tovi, Yaakobi’s son-in-law, noted that “Danny was a doctor who helped everyone, both Jewish and Arab neighbors.”

Muslim Terrorists Launch Rocket Attack against Israel

Posted by smoothstone

In a continuation of the 100-year war against the Jewish people, Muslim terrorists have again fired a Qassam rocket into the Negev in another attempt to continue their genocide against the indigenous Jewish people.

Fortunately, Israel Air Force warplanes bombed two weapons-smuggling tunnels in the southern Gaza Strip early Sunday in response to the rocket attack.

On Thursday, gunmen opened fire on IDF soldiers near the security fence along the border with Gaza.  No soldiers were wounded in the incident.

And for those keeping score and who  align themselves politically with “thepoorpalestinianpeepull”, approximately 670 Qassam rockets, mortar shells and Grad missiles have been fired at Israel since the beginning of 2009.

Hamas Smuggling New Arsenal into Gaza

Posted by smoothstone

Via Ha’aretz:

Hamas has smuggled a new arsenal into Gaza that would upset the balance of power, Israel believes.

Muslims currently have 160 tunnels beneath the Sinai border that they are using to smuggle longer range rockets, anti-tank missiles and perhaps even anti-aircraft missiles, security sources say. Some of the tunnels are large enough to let small all-terrain vehicles pass.

With the help of Hizbullah, Hamas has drawn up a new strategy of engagement with the IDF based on anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles.

In addition, Iranian technology has been used to increase the range of Kassam rockets Hamas is producing in Gaza to more than 20 km.
Israeli officials believe Egypt has not managed to reduce the flow of arms into Gaza.
