So anyway, I read that the Dell Mini Inspiron could be had for only $99 as its base price (instead of $349 as its base price) if you also bought a Dell Laptop at the same time you would purchase a Mini Inspiron. (That offer expires midnight tonite, and in fact, I don’t even see it as an option now on Dell’s site, so it must have really been a hit for other folks). But anyway, I twiddled around on Dell’s site just to see and configured the Mini Inspiron the way that I would like it and it came out to around $544 or so dollars, without a Laptop. Then, I configured a Dell Laptop and it came out to around $2,600 or so dollars. Turns out the dealbreaker wasn’t such a great deal. It would have only saved me $99 on the purchase of the Mini. But basically I was going to spend $2,600 to get something for like $445. It didn’t make sense.
But $2,600 bucks wasn’t what made me postpone my purchase of the Mini Inspiron, which I’m still hot to buy. What made me postpone purchasing it was the fact that the way the Dell Mini is currently configured, it has a wi-fi connection but it doesn’t have an active mobile broadband option. I don’t want wi-fi on my new best friend. If I’m in the middle of nowhere, I don’t want to have to find a Starbucks to get assistance. No ma’am, I want a radio tower for my connection, so I can get to my destination – and blog along the way.
The good news is that Dell will be adding a 3G broadband option to the Mini by the end of the year.
And when that configuration is available, is when I’m going to buy me one. And I can’t wait.

Dell’s Mini Laptop is here!
Wow! You know that sweet, red, juicy, luscious Dell mini-laptop that I had been salivating over while waiting for Dell to release it on their website?
Well, it’s here! Check it out! It’s called the Dell Inspiron Mini 9. It’s a 9″, 2.28 lb, 2 USB ports, 3-in-1 media card reader, VGA out, ethernet, on either Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition SP3 or Ubuntu Linux 8.04 with a custom Dell interface, an integrated Video Card ( not too crazy over that ) and comes in only a Black or White outer case.
I’m going to get one in Black in a few weeks once the reviews come out.
