Ayman Al-Zawahiri is the personal physician and chief Lieutenant to Osama bin Laden, a member of Egyptian Islamic Jihad and the Muslim Brotherhood, and has been indicted for masterminding the U.S. embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998.
On August 10, al Qaeda’s second-in-command, Ayman Al-Zawahiri, released an audio recording replete with blistering criticisms of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.
He condemned Musharraf for having accepted, for all practical purposes, Israel’s existence on what Arabs claim is Palestinian Arab territory. He further complained that Musharraf has allowed U.S. intelligence agencies to operate within Pakistan’s borders.
