According to the NY Times,
the annual mass circumcision is free and open to the public and held during the lunar month marking the birth of Mohammed. The Assalaam Foundation runs several schools and a mosque in Bandung, Indonesia’s third-largest city and the capital of West Java.
The photographer Stephanie Sinclair was taken to the circumcision event by a reproductive-health observer from Jakarta and allowed to spend several hours there. Over the course of that Sunday morning, more than 200 girls were circumcised, many of them appearing to be under the age of 5.
According to Lukman Hakim, the foundation’s chairman of social services, there are three “benefits” to circumcising girls.
“One, it will stabilize her libido,” he said through an interpreter. “Two, it will make a woman look more beautiful in the eyes of her husband. And three, it will balance her psychology.”

smoothstone Says:Female genital mutilation is NOT commanded by the Quran and this tradition is completely banned by Islam. God would never allow a human being to suffer in that manner. I dont understand why these traditions still exist and why those people think that this is acceptable. It makes me so angry and i wish that non-muslims will not be ignorant and that they will stop continuing to ridicule Islam.

NAZ, evidently English is your second language. No one here is ridiculing Islam.
But then again, it has been centuries of cries of “victimization” from Muslims that we in the west have grown accustomed to.
If crimes against humanity that I read in the head lines everyday all occur under the name of a religion then you should self-reflect.
There are no Jewish, Swedish, Buddhist, Mormon, Christian terrorist groups blowing up civilians anywhere.
If you are a Muslim, stand up and say what Muslims are doing is wrong, and do it publicly.
You’re still young, you can escape the madness, NAZ.
